SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A grocery store on wheels that helps make food more accessible needs more customers.

Helping customers is a highlight of the job for Amber Jones-Esquibel. She’s the manager of the Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market.

“My quota for every day is to make one person smile, and let me tell you, I make that quota every day,” Jones-Esquibel said.

Right now, the mobile market is serving over one hundred customers a week.

“And we really need to see more in order to make this a sustainable project,” Sioux Falls Thrive President Michelle Erpenbach said.

But Erpenbach says there is a perception about who should be shopping at the mobile market.

“The mobile market certainly was designed originally to be in those areas where it’s difficult to get to a grocery store, maybe it’s farther away, maybe folks have trouble with vehicles, those sorts of things, but it has become, and it truly is a grocery store that just so happens to show up in your neighborhood,” Erpenbach said.

That’s why Erpenbach wants shoppers to know the grocery store on wheels is for everyone.

“If you want to support a project like this, one of the best things you can do is grab your grocery sack and come on over and get some groceries. That’s the best way to support it,” Erpenbach said.

And Jones-Esquibel is ready to welcome even more people through the doors.

“This is for everyone. Regardless of where we’re going in our life, we can all come together with affordable food,” Esquibel said.

The mobile market runs Monday-Friday.
