Steubenville reacts to funding to replace Market St. Bridge – Information Important Internet

STEUBENVILLE, OHIO (WTRF) — Officials with the City of Steubenville are still rejoicing after hearing the news that the Market Street Bridge in Brooke County will be replaced.

Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla says when it was announced that the bridge would be shut down there was only one thing to do. After sending multiple letters to Ohio and West Virginia senators, Governor Jim Justice, and other local officials they finally received word that more than 87 million dollars would go towards replacing the bridge.


Mayor Barilla says when he first heard the news, he was thrilled that their hard work had paid off.

”We’re so happy, really, you can’t imagine, when I heard that news, it was like 4th of July fireworks went off. Thank God somebody has finally listened. And again, I’ll have to really commend Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, Senator Capito of West Virginia, to have really put this thing together and made it move.”

Mayor Barilla says they still haven’t determined where the new bridge will be placed or when the project will begin.
